Zeta Amicae of Southfield, MI
Our Auxiliary
Who Are the Amicae?
Since the 1940s, chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated have recognized the value of women who support Zeta’s ideals but followed a different educational path than a Greek-letter membership requires. In 1948, National President Lullelia Harrison recommended that chapters be allowed to organize auxiliaries known as Zeta “Amicae,” which is Latin for “Friends of Zeta.”
Today, Amicae auxiliaries exist in all eight regions of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., sponsored by local graduate chapters and rendering invaluable community service alongside their sponsoring chapter. The Pi Gamma Zeta Amicae carry that tradition forward here in Southfield and the greater Detroit area. They are women who share Zeta’s commitment to scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood, and who partner with our chapter to extend that mission further into the community.
Where It All Began
The Chartering of the Zeta Amicae of Southfield
A proud milestone for our chapter and our community: the day the Zeta Amicae of Southfield were officially chartered as Friends of Zeta.

Zeta values our Amicae and embraces the concept that all women, no matter their educational path, have the ability to reach their full potential and create unlimited opportunities.
